OK. So for the last few trips downtown in the morning to drop off Leah, I have taken a good hard look at everyone heading to work. As I sip my coffee, I have been waxing nostalgic for being of the working people...let me clarify, the working FOR A PAYCHECK people. I have seen freshly made-up and ironed women with their pretty briefcases rushing from the bus or their car into their offices, cubicles ready. I saw a handsome man loaded down with two large boxes which could only have contained pastries (yum)...and because of his fit self, the pastries were clearly to share with colleagues. I watch as the homeless make their way from the shelter to their "day" locations. And about 500 teenagers rushing to class at SPCPA. I watch one man read the paper on a bench outside of a park EVERY day. He has a small atache case (spelling? Not sure and I'm not looking it up - dammit - be right back - okay two t's in attache) and he has been out on the SAME bench every day with the only exception being the days it was raining to beat the band. I watch him as I turn at that street to head back up to East 7th to get back home to Willa. I am starting to form a life story for him. He looks kind...and someone who has a very interesting life story -
So anyway, today, Monday morning, I was listening to MPR and before and after I left, was listening to the Today Show with the long interview with the President on the future of our country's education system. Most of my good friends are educators...oh, and gainfully employed, so they probably couldn't watch the interview. However, it was interesting, frustrating, and inspiring. I did, however, make the mistake of reading through some (I could only stomach about 20) of the online comments via the Today website. O M G I know the idiot brigade is alive and kicking...but COME ON....upon reading the idiotisms (most but not all comments fell under this category), I felt a tad beaten, defeated and hopeless about this country's future. It is simply N O T possible to be as seemingly under-educated, uninformed and unintelligent as these folks seemed to be. If you feel the desire to tap into what could be the loud and stupid of this wonderful country, then catch the link to the comments on the President's interview....and then please PLEASE P L E A S E vote with all of your brain power in November.
And upon processing the pervasive ignorance of some (and the pure genius of others), take time to laugh. Humans are a funny, funny species.

God speed, little buddies.
So, are you going to share the man's life story with the rest of us?
ReplyDeleteWho knew that walking kids to school could be so great? One of my favorite parts of the day...
